Shorthaired Pointer News
The German shorthaired pointer
is a breed of gundog well suited to family life as well as a
very versatile hunter. These dogs are very intelligent, bold,
and affectionate dogs that are cooperative and easily trained.
They rank 17th in Stanley Coren's The Intelligence of Dogs, being
excellent working dogs. The German shorthaired pointer is very
good with children, and have proven to be a very loyal family
pet. Most German Shorthaired Pointers make excellent watchdogs.
This dog breed generally gets along well with other dogs. They
possess a strong hunting instinct and are a very energetic dog.
The German Shorthaired Pointer needs
plenty of vigorous activity. This need for exercise coupled with
the breed's natural instinct to hunt, means that training is
an absolute necessity. The GSP distinctly independent character
and superior intelligence makes for an wonderful family companion
as well as a great gundog. Strong, loyal, and intelligent are
the characteristics summing up the German Shorthaired Pointer.

CONGRATULATIONS
TO DAKOTA AND OWNERS MIKE AND SHANNON TREISCH!!!
Tracy,
Here are a few pictures
of Dakota and his Dock Diving. He has taken 2 first place jumps
in the Pro and Senior division.
There are 5 divisions, Splash, Junior, Senior, Pro, and Extreme.
They are divided into length of the jump that the dog does, and
then they are put into one of the 5 divisions. The jumps consist
of the dog staging on the 40 ft. dock and they run and jump into
a 30-35 ft pool.
There are judges along the length of the pool and where the
base of the dogs tail goes into the water that is the length
of the jump, this makes it equal for all dogs regardless of the
size. The dog swims back and exits the pool by a ramp that is
at the edge of the pool and reaches the deck of the dock.
Dakota won his first place with a jump of 21 ft. 3 inches. in
Lancaster. He was the only dog that jumped into the pro division
out of about 20 dogs that day.
His second first place was at the Pet Expo in Columbus, where
he jumped 19 ft. 5 inches. The cut off from Senior to Pro is
the 20 foot mark. There was a lot more competition at the Expo,
and there were some pro dogs there that were jumping 24 to 27
feet. The world record is right at 30 feet.
Dakota loves to do it, and what a great way to help keep him
in shape for hunting season.
